Personal motivation |
Everyone faces a major decision at some point in life — one that can affect not only themselves, but other people as well. For me, that decision was becoming an egg donor. It sounds rather serious, doesn’t it? But I gave it a great deal of thought — honestly.
Before this, I didn’t really know much about egg donation. I used to donate blood once a year because it felt like a good thing to do, and that was all. Then one day, my friend told me that she had become an egg donor. She explained everything to me in such detail: how the process works, the rules involved, and, most importantly, how much it can help other people. I listened and thought, “Wow… could I do that too?”
Of course, I didn’t rush into it immediately. I spent a long time thinking it over first. I read articles online, watched videos, and spoke to adults to better understand the procedure and any possible risks or difficulties. It was important for me to understand everything thoroughly because I never want to make important decisions carelessly.
So why did I eventually decide to do it? The answer is simple: I feel deeply sorry for couples who are unable to conceive. I know people who have gone through that experience — years of doctor’s appointments, medical tests, treatments, and still no result. It’s heartbreaking. And then I realised that perhaps I could help, even in a small way. I thought: if I’m healthy and able to do this, then why shouldn’t I? It almost feels like a superpower — helping someone become a parent.
Fortunately, I’m in good health: I have no serious illnesses, my family medical history is generally good, and I try to take care of myself by eating well and making sensible choices. So I thought that if I have the opportunity to help someone have a child, that is something truly meaningful.
Before making my final decision, I did several things:
I researched the procedure thoroughly by reading articles and watching interviews with doctors.
I visited a gynaecologist and asked every question I had.
I spoke to my mum and my best friend because their opinions mattered to me.
I considered carefully whether I was emotionally ready. This is not just some casual procedure — you need to be completely certain.
I understand that this is not simply a matter of “turning up for a test”; it is a serious and important step. But I genuinely feel ready. I want to help people who truly dream of having a child. And I know that any child born this way will grow up surrounded by love, in a family that has longed for them deeply. In a way, I would simply be helping that family come into being — almost like a fairy godmother, only without the magic wand.
And, of course, I appreciate the fact that donors are compensated. It’s not that I chose to do it for the money — not at all, and that is certainly not my main motivation. Still, the extra financial support is a pleasant bonus. For example, I’d like to save up for a new laptop. Money is nice, of course, but the chance to make someone’s life happier is worth far more.
Now I even feel inspired to tell my friends about it. Perhaps someone else might also realise that they could help. I know that the process is handled very carefully nowadays, with doctors monitoring everything closely to ensure it is safe. And I’m genuinely grateful to the clinic and the medical staff — they have been so kind, supportive, and understanding throughout the entire process.
Ultimately, I decided to become a donor because I want to help people fulfil their dream of becoming parents. I believe it is something incredibly noble and genuinely important. And when I think that somewhere in the future, a child I helped bring into the world will grow up loved and happy… it gives me goosebumps. It’s such a wonderful feeling.
